White gold ring with diamonds

Jewelry is quite a personal choice.

The choice of which gold color really comes down to which gold you prefer but there are some other things to consider when picking a piece of jewelry.

Gold tends to be the most sought after precious metal, so we will focus on the aspects of gold for this post. Yellow and white gold are both readily recognized as two of the most common options, but in recent years, rose gold has become quite the trend.

Rose gold, while on trend, is also used in traditional ways: solitaire diamond engagement rings, wedding bands, and anniversary bands. Rose gold is made of pure gold and a mix of copper and silver alloys which is what gives it the rose tone. It can range in color depth from a light pale pink which denotes more gold, to a much deeper pink. Rose gold doesn’t tarnish but does need to be polished regularly.

Polishing gold is an easy way to keep all types of gold beautiful. White gold seems to be the gold standard lately and is made of pure gold mixed with silver, palladium, and nickel. Often white gold will have a rhodium coating as well.

Yellow gold can actually be rhodium plated to appear white, but yellow gold is the most pure form of gold mixed with copper and zinc. The karat will denote the amount of pure gold in the piece:

24 Karat: 99.9% Pure

22 Karat: 91.7% Pure

18 Karat: 75% Pure

14 Karat: 58.3% Pure

What would be your first choice for a gold piece: rose, white, or yellow?
